WHAT A RELIEF !!!

Turns out the oil leak was coming from the T fitting that I installed in order to hook up an oil gauge !

Thought I had it tight enough (didn't appear to leak when I installed it), but after wiping everything off and watching for where the oil was coming from, I traced it back up to the fitting.

Thanks everyone for your replies,

Kuboman...Where is the crankcase breather located on my tractor engine?

What tractor do you have? Until quite recently tractors did not have positive crankcase ventilation which means they DID NOT have a hose from the valve cover it the air intake. Now they do. As for a non PCV there will be a hose or pipe from the valve cover which will go down beside the engine and end with an open end somewhere about the bottom of the engine.
Hope you can decipher what I mean if not ask some more.

Gald you found the leak.

Keep in mind dipsticks are often wrong. I read one factory manual that stated to fill with the speced volume on the level and remark the dip stick.

I had rather be a quart low than one over full by a quart for hobby use. If one is going to turn at max RPM 16 hours a day at full load then I would want start with speced volume.

I was trying to make a point...not all tractors have crankcase ventilation (mine doesn't), that is why I install the dipstick loosely on mine...kind of a "redneck" PCV...I don't want seal leaks...they are not expensive to repair, but they are a pain in the butt to replace.
