Have cabins rented next week at Fun Valley camp ground at South Fork. A couple of friends have been there several times and told us what a great time they had. But looking for different view points. Anyone else been there and have recommendations on what to see and do? Or not see and do?

I wouldn't have the vaguest idea, since I've never been there.

I just wanted to say - YOU LUCKY GUY! I WANNA COME TOO!! /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Is this like a lodge kind of place for fishing and hunting? If it is, what will you be going after? You'd better take some good pictures! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Here is what I know about it. It has 1 mile frontage on the south fork of the Rio Grande River, some cabins, some rental campers, some rental RV spaces, trout fishing in the river as well as some stocked lakes, horseback riding, bicycles, hiking, a good buffet home style cooking restuarant, lots of activities for kids (if you have them and want to get rid of them safely), only rent to families, limited access to only those staying there. Everyone I have talked to said they loved it. I will soon find out. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Bring a coat!! 3 days ago it was 25 gegrees with a dusting of snow. Weather can change dramatically up here!! It has snowed in June before.

You will at a higher altitude. If you smoke, stop. Smoking creates a hypoxic situation at all altitudes that is amplified up here. Start exercising now. Start drinking lots and lots of water. Keep drinking the water once you get here. Alcohol works real well up here, but take it in moderation.

Once you get here you will find that you will yawn a bunch and tire quickly. Just your body's way of telling you it isn't getting enough O2. Slow down (you will have to anyway).

You may have trouble sleeping, so you might want to bring something to help with that (not alcohol!!).

Yes, there are mosquitoes at 8500 ft msl so bring the bug spray. There have been human cases of West Nile, but mostly in the eastern plains.

Don't drink the clear cool water straight from the streams. There is a nasty parasite (Giardia) that could ruin your vacation unless you like to spend time in the head.

You probably won't be here long enough to get aclimated, so just take things slow.

Oh yeah, your kids won't notice any difference at all!!! Darn whippersnappers!!!

Thanks for the tips. The extended forecast for Southfork is low 40s to low 70s. That will be great if it holds. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
My goal is to slow down and take it easy. But with my son, his wife and the 2 grandkids along, that may be easier said than done. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif
Garry - did I mention that they schedule a weekly 4 man scramble at one of the local courses? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
