Every once in awhile my main fuse by the start blows. Then I have to tap the solenoid on the starter to get it to free up. I thought I remember where somebody had the same issue. Should I just replace the solenoid? What would one cost and is it easy to replace.

On the positive side, just bought a Curtis snow plow for my 7308 loader. Of course no snow yet.

Thanks
Bob

I finally hooked my curtis plow up to the 7308 on the 1920 for the first time. Had it for 3 years or so now and never used it before. It is fun but it is still slower then the TN. It's main advantage is the angle when working along the road.

Sounds like a starter issue; I would remove the starter; disassemble looking for any problem areas. Hopefully, you will find your trouble spot and correct it.

I agree with dqdave1 that the starter seems to be your problem. The solenoid is available as a repair part, but it is so expensive that you might just decide to buy the whole starter instead. I think I'd take it to an auto electric starter/alternator shop and see if they might be able to cure the sticking-binding problem. Of course, you might get lucky and be able to fix it yourself. It would sure be worth a try at the price of these starters.

Save your money. You need to install an additional relay in the starting circuit. Visit your NH dealer and have them go online to get you the information on how to install this relay. A month ago or so this was discussed on this forum. The title of the post had dx33 in it. If you do a search you can probably find it. I know it sounds strange but it works.

My tractor came with a 30 amp fuse and it would blow. I checked the new tractors and they have a 40 amp fuse, so I replaced mine wit the 40 amp fuse. I found them at NAPA. I haven't blown the main fuse since. I also had the starter problems too. The dealer increased the wire size going to the starter solenoid and they said they installed a relay too. I hope this helps.

I would be really surprised if any electrical problem could cause this. It just sounds like a mechanical problem to me. Either way, the electrical problem needs to be looked at closely too.

I think the circut modification allows slightly higher voltage to reach the solenoid. I could be wrong here but I would think it would "throw" with a bit more force? Maybe that would eliminate the need to tap on it.

Yep! I sure agree with that. I just thought his description was about the solenoid "disengaging" the starter rather than engaging. Since most solenoids I have seen disengage under spring pressure, I assumed it was binding if he had to tap it to get it to release. I hope NYBOB lets us know what the final resolution of his problem is.
