Help me get my tractor going again! I have a FX24D that has acquired a gremlin. Had the side covers removed and when I started there was a spark from the right side of the engine compartment, I turned the tractor off and went looking for the culprit and found nothing. Re-started the tractor and did some work. Next day tractor would not start. Searched again and found a nylon plug with a black and a yellow wire attached to it but could not find anywhere it came from. Removed the bonnet assembly for a better look and still could not find anywhere to attach the plug. Am currently assuming this plug is a red herring and is not in use??? Tried starting the tractor again, both oil and charge lights come on, turned the key to start and the only thing that happened was the two lights went out, no solenoid click or anything. Turned key off and then on again now no lights and no start. A few hours later tried again and lights and then nothing when going to start and everything dead again. Any ideas I can't seem to find a detailed wiring diagram anywhere on the web to assist me.

Does the Battery have 12V. showing. Still doesn't say it's good but you know you have good power. Then check all the connections to it. + /- I'm guessing ground to the battery or were the cable connects to the frame if you show good voltage. Connections to the starter etc...

The electrical schematic is this,

QUESTION, how thick is the wire? IF it is thick, then does it go to the starter?

On the YTOG, we have a close manual for the tractor family you own of the FX24,

If you can find this, you would be in good shape,

Measure battery voltage - should be 12.6 volts or so. Keeping voltmeter on battery have someone attempt to start while watching voltmeter. It will drop but should not go below 10 volts or so. If it does drop lower you have a bad battery or charger issues. If it does not drop clean terminals and connectors. Replace connectors and tighten securely. Don't forget to clean and tighten the chassis ground.

Electrical parts either work or go bad and don't. For it to start and if the battery had a full charge on it and dead the next morning is normal for a bad battery. Cold and winter for that to happen is typical. Check the Battery is good before you try to start it.

I think the spark you saw is telling. As careyo63 suggested I think it is a ground to frame connection.

Well, what a silly billy! Replaced the battery a couple of months back and to squeeze it in I had to remove the earth strap out of the way. Obviously, I hadn't tightened the stud well enough, and it came loose. All fixed now and thanks for sharpening my mind, I guess that odd wire described above made me look for a more complex problem instead of the obvious, I must be getting old. Thanks again for waking me up to the obvious. Oh, and if anyone ever thinks of what that pair of wires might be let me know.

Glad that you found the fix yourself!

I would try the schematic as a way to figure out what the mystery plug is, and then try tracing the wires from the connector.

All the best,

Peter

I've tried referring to the schematic but as it is Japanese it hasn't been of much help. The mystery plug has two wires going into it, one black and one yellow. These wires are taped and go over the engine to the left where they join two more wires that go to the temperature sensor. All four wires are then taped and disappear into the main loom. The plug itself has nowhere within its reach that it can attach to so I'm assuming the loom is common to two different models, but this plug is not used on the FX24D.
