FX26 and FX28 cylinder heads

Thought I would share what I found about my cracked cylinder head. If you have one of the two models I listed in the subject line some parts are going to be a major problem. Heads are scarce as hen's teeth and, if you are lucky enough to find one, going to cost over $2,000. I had mine repaired (local machine shop said it was not repairable) at Midwest Cylinder Heads in Nevada, Iowa. Cost $500 and was worth every penny. They furnace welded it and so far so good.

Follow this link and you will see a picture of a head being furnace welded. They place it (or a variety of other different pieces in a blast furnace and heat it up and weld right inside the furnace. They cool it, pressure test it, and go through the process as often as they need to get all the cracks fixed. Hope this helps.
