I posted a question about changing hydraulic filters and fluids on my Mahindra 3215 HST. The tractor seemed to be losing power not only thru climbing hills, but also with the backhoe/FEL. Was advised here to change the fluid and filters. Great advice. Power has been restored and is like new. Only thing is, the manual says to change fluid/filters at 100 hours. My tractor had about 74 hours. Goes to show you to use a little common sense and not be afraid to ask advice. This experience has taught me to not skrimp on maintenance EVER!. I don't care any longer about those people who ridicule me for being so persnickety about maintaining my equipment ever again. I took a quick inventory of my equipment and saw that I have no junked and abandoned equipment on my property. All of my stuff is well maintained and covered from the elements. My nearest neighbor who is about 3/4 mile down the rural road insults me by accusing me of wasting money on maintenance. He says that engine oil NEVER needs changing and that it is a conspiracy among the oil companies to sell their products. I took a quick inventory of his property and counted 3 tractors sitting out in various spots on his property. One tractor appears to be there for nearly 20 years....all rusted and overgrown with weeds. Also, there are 2 pk'up trucks sitting there off to the side of the driveway that have been abandoned. Who knows why these vehicles are down? Could it be to lack of regular maintenance? Nah!!(sarcasm intended). The bottom line here is to reenforce the importance of regular and routine maintenance. From my personal experience, attack your tractor's maintenance EVEN more often than recommended. Those people who espouse that motor oil never goes bad, I'll throw my knowledge here, motor oil consists of long-chain hydrocarbon molecules when fresh out of the bottle. Pour it into your engine's crankcase and it immediately starts to break apart from taking a beating from your connecting rod acting like an egg beater...plus the blow-by from the piston rings...etc...and you can see that enine DOES neeed changing at regular intervals. Long chain molecules break down into short-chain molecules which begin to lose the anti-wear protection for your engine. Also, oil acts as a coolant as it circulates throughout the engine. Once it starts to break down, you not only lose the cooling effect, the lubricity is lost and heat is built up from the friction. FRICTION is the death knell for any engine. In the end, it's you equipment and it's your money. Remember the Fram fiilter guy who said, "pay me now, or pay me later'? Too bad that Fram oil filters are some of the worst filters on the market. (Fram uses cardboard in their construction). Junk, in my opinion(and in the automotive field. Want high qualty filters? Go with permanent filters that have a rating of ABSOLUTE filtering median of about 30 microns. (25 is better). FYI, your replaceable filters have a rating of 30-35 microns AVERAGE. Permanent filters can be removed, cleaned, and then reinstalled. It's what I do for ALL of my toys.
