G-194 ignition wiring question

Hi to all! Have a problem w/the wiring from the GlowPlug/ignition-switch (not the key switch) on my G194. The switch became loosened from the dash-panel and would rattle a bit; we kept using it, but ultimately two wires have become detached (one black, and another larger-gauge which is black with grey-stripe). Tractor will run, but we now have to short the starter (using a screwdriver across the terminals) to crank the engine. Also have lost the 'glow-plug' indicator, and plugs do not seem to warm-up or glow. Mechanic advised to give the engine a small, short-shot of ether (starting fluid) into the air-cleaner before cranking, so that's what we do now. All of this seems to work, but (1) it is a cumbersome arrangement for starting (or re-starting) and (2) I'd like to fix it and have it "right". My mechanic (he knows his diesels, but he's a part-timer sort) said there was very little room to get a hand up and under the dash to access the backside of this switch (he's right, there's not much room under there!) without removing the steering wheel, hood, side-panels and then removing the dash panel in order to remake the wiring connections. He suggested it might be possible to just replace the glow-plug/ignition switch with a 3-way toggle switch mounted on a separate panel... but he hasn't got back to me with any further 'fix'.

Any thoughts or suggestions from others who may have experienced this problem will be appreciated!

I have a G194, which at the present dosen't run. I think you could get to the sw better by removing the fuel tank and going in from the front. I have never done so, but I think it could be done easier. Be careful about the glow plug indicator, as it acts as a dropping resistor for the glow plugs. The glow plugs in mine were 10 volt, not the 12 volt which you would need to bypass the resistor. If you would like, I'll see if I can find the part number for the 12v plugs. I think I found them for about $12 each. Take a close look at the side of the plug, it should tell what the voltage is. The guy I got the tractor from said he used a heavy paper clip as the indicator. I replaced mine with 12v glow plugs, but haven't spent the time to get it running. It acts like it has a timing problem, as it sucks your hand in the exaust when cranking. I had the valves redone, so its not that. I have a wiring diagram I photographed from the hood.
