Greetings. Got a new "G" series Toolcat here that I noticed when stopped the wheels will only turn a few degrees R or L when a turn is commanded. I noticed it when I was trying to align the rear wheels after taking the unit out of AWS. Had to make the unit move a little to achieve full steering. Told this was normal on new units that have the independent suspension. Anyone out there that's noticed this or can check this on their Toolcat?

Try cranking the rpms up some and see if they turn better. My 2009 "D" series is a 'resistant' turner if the rpms are low and I'm standing still, especially on pavement.

My F series with independent suspension, has to be moving slightly for the steering to work.

You can turn the steering wheel while stopped, until it won't turn more, then press the go pedal lightly to let the steering work. Makes it hard to line up the SSQA to the attachment. Sometimes have to shift to reverse and rock back and forth to get lined up.

I will have to try raising the RPM to see if that helps.

OK guys. That confirms what Bobcat is telling me with the steering geometry of the new machines. One wheel rotates backwards and the other forwards when a turn is commanded. The brake isn't released till you step on the pedal to move. RPM did make a little difference. I'm chasing a problem of intermittent slow drive. Thought the brake was hanging up and the steering was a symptom. Any thoughts??

I didn't believe that at first. Then I looked at some of my pictures that show the axles with the wheels turned and now I understand the statement.

I could put the bucket on, lift the front wheels up, put it in front steer and see if it will steer without moving.

That was a good idea XFAXMAN. I just tried it. It does steer more and easier with the front wheels off the ground. Though it would make no difference with what Bobcat is saying about the brakes not releasing till movement is commanded.Wish I had a good place to tee in a PSI gauge to look at when the brake is released. Armrest down or armrest down movement commanded.

Does your problem of intermittent slow drive show up in both the low and high speed setting?

The brakes are spring loaded release when the pressure to the driveline reaches a certain point. I can't remember the exact number but something in the back of my head says something like 800 psi but don't quote me on that.

To my knowledge the brakes are spring applied. Charge PSI directed from the brake solenoid releases them . 360PSI
