I have a Bolens G194, equivelent to the Iseki TS1910F, 2 cylinder. It always starts easily whether hot or cold out but only on one cylinder. After several seconds the second cylinder joins in. I doubt it takes even a minute but it is long enough that its annoying to have to wait for it. Once the tractor has been running it starts fine on both cylinders. Other than this annomally the tractor is strong and trouble free. If this was a cold weather thing I would blame a bad glow plug but it acts the same in the summer when starting without glow plugs.

Any thoughts as to what's up with the lazy cylinder?

My first guess would be the glow plug is bad in the slow cylender....Larry

If its a bad glow plug, why would it act the same even when I start it without using the glow plugs? No, its got to be something else.

I takes heat and fuel to start a diesel engine. You say it starts ok when warm so the only other thing that makes heat would be compression. I would take a compression test and check with the specks of the engine....Larry

And even if you didn't have the compression specs, if the compression was substantially different between the two you can pretty well bet you either need new rings or possibly just a valve job. I did a top end rebuild on my TS1610F (same engine as yours with smaller injector nozzles) with the motor in place, including rod bearings, rings, ball hone the cylinders, and head gasket. Took the head to a local truck service co. for the valve job including guides and seals, and took the injectors to a local injector service co. to check and adjust the spray patterns and pressure settings (they didn't charge me anything for it!). It was not a hard job, just takes the time. Oil was gushing out the breather on mine and I couldn't see any other explanation for it than blow-by. In the end, I found out it didn't need a top end rebuild, just new rockers and rocker shaft which were worn and leaking by. After all, the tractor only had about 650 hrs on it. Anyway, parts are readily available for your Isuzu motor from different sources. I like DESSCO.com in Utah (Jim Hiner in Parts), also like their parts prices.

Other possibilities could be sluggish (or sticky) rings on the one piston, bad initial fuel delivery from the injection pump to that cylinder, excessive clearance with the intake valve (not allowing for intake until the engine heats up enough to allow it to begin opening from expansion) or an exhaust valve held open. If there are no backfire problems with your tractor, the open valve is unlikely.

A compression check would be a good starting point, as it is quite likely there will be a fair difference between the two cylinders. If compression is poor, pour heavy oil (a 1/2 shot glass) in the cylinder and try another reading. If the reading shoots up, you have a ring problem, if not, your valves need adjusting, you have excessive wear in the guides or you may have a burned valve. If compression is good in both cylinders, I would suspect your injection pump.

Take the time to ensure the valves are adjusted. I bought a beautiful YM240D this fall and I am sure it was sold because rough running (the exhaust valve was tight on one cylinder). When adjusted, this tractor is the sweetest running unit one could want.
