Bolens G274 (new to me) - I have an operator's manual but I can't seem to get the feathering control to operate. Unfortunately there must have been a design change between printing and manufacture. The directions talk about a dash switch, a dash lever, and another lever down by the driver's left calf. The machine doesn't have the dash lever. The direction say - PTO may be engaged using the dash switch by permanently moving feathering control lever to ON. (this works). PTO may be feathered by permanently moving dash lever to to ON and controlling PTO with feathering control lever. Move lever approximately 1/2 the travel until PTO begins to rotate, then move control to fully ON position. (with no "dash lever" I've tried various combinations and nothing seems to work). Any ideas ?

I also have a G274 and have been wondering about the PTO controls. My lever/switch on the dash has been replaced with a toggle switch. I have the 540 N 1000 RPM lever by the left calf. Where is your feathering control?

If my PTO control lever is in 540 or 1000 with the dash switch in the off position, the pto shaft will spin slowly. When I flip the dash switch, I have been throtteling down so there would be less stress on the PTO system. With the PTO control lever, I can switch to 540 to N with no problem but if I try to go from N to 540 while the tractor is running I will get grinding, so I have been shutting down the engine then switching it into 540.

It looks like I need help too!

Not sure what You Guys are talking about on the dash as far as levers or switches . I have Isekis , no manual & cant read Chinese .

But I only use the pto lever & it never grinds & when I push in the clutch the pto stops Pronto . But theres so many controls I have no clue what they are , I,m not posative how I have mine set. any chance of a pic of the levers or switches your talking about ? Best of luck. Bob

My G274 has an ON/OFF switch on the dash. The manual also shows a lever on the left of the steering column (that I don't have). It has the 540 - neutral - 1000 RPM lever behind my left calf. And just forward of my left calf, on the side of the drive train housing, there is a small lever that is called the feathering control.

You must have a "new and improved" model. Here are a few pictures. The one with the levers is upside down the round knob is the PTO and the Flat one is the 4WD control, so the PTO control is closer to the fender. The one with the dash shows the toggle switch and it is lettered "PTO Clutch". The last one is where I think the feathering control should be.

Maybe some more people can weigh in now.

Thanks Coolnik - good explanation - and it matches up with mine except I have the original dash switch rather than the replacement toggle and the picture in my manual shows a lever (maybe 4 or 6" long) below the switch and nearly parallel with the ground. I don't have that lever but I do have the smaller one down on the drivetrain housing. The operator's manual speaks of both.

Hello,

I am a brand new TRACTOR owner. ISEKI G274.
I have piloted cars, motorcycles, boats, airplanes and horses .... but this is the scariest thing I have ever sat on....but it is getting better with familiarization and a sensitive left foot.

To add to the confusion .... I seem to have an extra lever marked AUX SPEED and CREEP. I have the 3-speed, and HI-LO range figured out. But the AUX speed lever is ther only thing I haven't figured out ..... is this the equal to the feathering mentioned here? ...or does this allow a faster/slower range of PTO speed with slower engine speeds?

There are a couple of other ISEKIS locally but none have this AUX speed lever.

Thanks for your help.
