Woman Killed in Car When DOT Mower Ejects Rock
LaGRANGE, Ga. (WXIA) - A LaGrange, Georgia woman was killed Wednesday when a DOT mower ejected a rock that went through a car window and struck her.
According to 11Alive.com in Atlanta, Annie Lee was riding with four others in a Nissan Sedan on Hamilton Road at Mile Marker 6.
The Troup County Sheriff's Office says a state DOT worker was mowing the right of way using a Bush Hog when the machinery shot out a rock that hit another passenger, before hitting and killing Lee.
A spokesperson for GDOT said Thursday they are investigating as well, adding their equipment has safety features supposed to prevent debris from flying out from under the mowers.
State roadways are mowed only a few times a year. Mowing was suspended for months amid a statewide budget crisis and has only picked up since late 2010.
