The 28x40 pole barn that we discussed in a previous thread (pole barn bracing) is ready for the roof.........
I need to build a gable end out from the end truss about 10".......am furring out the distance with 2x4 framing on 4' centers..........the furring is basically just a rectangle with bracing glued and screwed about every 18".......the length of these varies depending upon the slope of the roof; but basically the longest is 76" down to 38"...........I need a total of 5..........
On these I am hanging 2x6 pressure treated fascia's......and then am going to side with 1x12 rough sawn from a local mill.......

THE QUESTION IS:.........this is quite a bit of weight on one truss..........I am bolting each furring frame directly onto the last truss...........the truss has a 28' span of 2x6 chords......it is braced 3' in from each end on a 45 degree angle down to a post on each side of the structure............am I asking to much for one truss to support this or am I just worrying........The bottom chord of the truss has a 2x6x10 center then the rest runs to the ends...........wouldnt be a real problem to bolt a 2x6x16' scab onto the inside of the bottom chord to reinforce it; but dont want to if you dont think it is needed...................talked to the engineer of the truss plant and he said no problem............what do YOU think......Dennis

I think I would get the engineers no-prob on paper but it sounds good to me I THINK

mine are similar one foot overhangs and are basically an estra truss but has support under the other trusses and the outside one sets ontp of these supports with breacing inbetween the last one and the gable overhand one. mine is ONLY 1 foot I wish I had gone farther for the gables say 3' for a better overhang on the top of the building.

Maybe i'm not understanding you but why couldn't you have just taken the 2 by 12s or whatever you were using nailed to your posts to sit the trusses on and just extend them past the posts the 10"and then just set the trusses on them.? That is how i would have done it.
