Tractor
2210D
I bought a 2210D about a month ago from a private party. The charging light works as it should, illuminates when key is on and extinguished when the tractor is started. The oil light never illuminated at all and the temp light also never illuminated. I had put on about ten hours on the tractor and then decided to check the fuses and the bulbs for these lights. There were no bulbs for the temp or oil and the sockets were extremely dusty/dirty. I mention this because I believe that the previous owner had not had the bulbs in either. Now that I have installed the bulbs, the oil and temp lights are illuminated all the time, as soon as you turn the key and they never extinguish. I think that after this much time, if there was actually a problem with overheating or no oil pressure, the engine would have given up by now. The coolant is full and has never boiled over. The oil is clean and full. Is there something that can make the light illuminate besides low pressure or high temps? Does the thermostat fail open or closed? Can I easily install mechanical needle gages? Thanks for any advise. warm regards, keith zack

If oil switch is bad ,it will be open to make the light stay on.I think the same is true for temp light. Open bad ( light on) good closed (light off)

For the temp light I think it comes on when the sensor shorts the signal wire to ground. If the light is on all the time, disconnect the wire at the sensor and see if that kills the light. If it remains on, your temp wire is shorted to ground somewhere.

The more common problem is the opposite - how to force a false 'overheated' signal to test the bulb is still good. I do this by sliding the wire slightly up the sensor's terminal and slipping in a grounding wire, which lights the lamp.

You could also check resistance of the temp sensor's terminal to ground. It should be 'open', high resistance, with the signal wire disconnected (if the engine isn't overheated). Try this only with the wire disconnected - if voltage were present it would smoke your ohmmeter.

You"er are right cal .When it gets hot the temp.sensor shorts to ground. If it's bad it will short to ground causing light to stay on. Or, the wire is grounded out somewhere keeping the light on

Many of us have installed gauges. It is a simple task. A quick search on "gauges" in this forum should show you what you want to know.

Shouldn't that be the other way around? Without any oil pressure the light is on, switch is a normally closed switch. With oil pressure, the switch opens and the light goes out.
