Yesterday I saw my new barn from the sky for the 1st time. It sticks out like a sore thumb. Lots of nice farms, fields, trees and then my bright shiny silver ufo. Can you say ugly!! I was silly to save the small amount of money - I could have easily done a colored roof - dangit. Anyway, the roof and building are brand new so the correction would be strictly for cosmetic purposes. Is it a dumb idea to paint it? Is there even a paint that would stick? I assume if the paint did stick the roof would need to be painted every couple years or worse. If I hit lotto would it be counterproductive to put a different color roof on top (and have a two layer roof)? Or a better idea to just replace it? < Given those choices. Any other ideas?

Don't spend much time answering - I'll probably leave it the way it is... but figured I would at least want to know my options just for grins.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!!

How many people do you expect to fly over your barn and see it? Of these people, are there any that you are concerned about their opinion? For me, those questions would be easy and I wouldn’t even think about it again.

It might be ugly but it's very reflective. So if some yogurt eating art major tries to tell you your roof is ugly, tell them it's saving energy and the environment.

don't fly over mine, think it has 3 colors, 1/2 galvalume and 2 shades of white on other half. But I saved over 50% on the costs.

I think any Texan would love to have a new barn with a huge Texas Flag painted on the roof. How could it get any better than that? Well, on the other side of the barns roof paint the Gonzales Flag with the crossed canon barrels an the "Come and take it." caption, or the second flag of the republic.... the solid blue with the white star and Texas spelled around the star.

That's beauty to me. God Bless Texas.

I have galvalume on both my house and garage and love it. It reflects the blue sky nicely and I could care less about looking down from above. There are a lot of roofs around here that are in poor condition and no offence but I dislike tar shingle roofs.

It will oxidize over time, and turn a dull gray.

Galvalume requires a galvalume primer if you wish for the paint to stick. Contrary to above posts, galvalume does not reflect heat. Galvalume is far far hotter in the sun than a dark painted metal. I have the same problem as you. I let my contractor talk me into a white painted roof to reflect the heat over the burgundy color that is on the side walls. I never gave it any thought that I would be able to see it until it was on sight. Time to get some oil based paint and cover 5,625 sf.

I would imagine the worse thing would be if the local USAF flyboys decided it was a great bomb target because it is so bright.

It happened to a friend of mine's house years ago when he painted the roof white. He said it was cool at first, until they would start getting low at night.
