Gas gauge quit on me

My gas gauge stopped working on my Century 3040 today. Any ideas or has anybody else had this problem? It might be that a rodent got under the hood and did some wiring modifications because I found some shop rags made into a nest on top of the engine. Anyway some of you experts might give me some ideas on how to trouble shoot this problem. Any help would be appreciated.

The first thing I would do is us a test light and check for good ground and power to the sending unit.
If no power to the sending unit, check the fuse (assuming there is a seperate fuse to the sending unit).
If the fuse is good but no power to the send unit, work backwards from it till you do find power. Then you will have an idea where to start repairs.
If there is power and good ground to the sending unit it could be the sending unit itself.

Today I finally had time to look at the problem. Turns out I was right about the mice eating the wire. FYI the fuel sender is on the left side tank and the wire was cut pretty close to where it come out of the top so I didn't have much wire to splice in to. After I fixed it I took some silicon and a pot pie pan and covered the top of the sender to prevent this from happening again. Thanks for the help.

A product called "bounce" will help deture the rats from eating your tractor to the ground.

"Bounce" is those little towell things that your wife puts in the dryer. The rats dont like it, and it will slow them down..IT WILL NOT STOP THEM ALL TOGETHER.

I'll try the "bounce" idea. I also went to a Branson dealer and found a new sender and he only charged me $42.00! I was kinda expecting to get ripped off on buying parts, but I thought that was reasonable. He even had one in stock!!!! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif
