Gas Grill to Home propane tank

I have dealt with restaurant operators from several states who use LP gas. I have never heard of any LP company charging for hooking up any LP appliance. They MAY charge for special parts in excess of about $50. the most common is the required quick disconnect for fryers, ovens etc that have casters. That hose assembly can run upwards of $125. You would pay for that, but nothing else for the service call. LP companies want more business and installing another item locks in future sales. They will do this even for homes.

Another reason is that they want to make sure that a licensed professional is involved with the hookup. If YOU do it and something later blows up, they are worried that they will get sued. They might not be at fault or have anything to do with it, but any decent lawyer will try to involve as many people as possible in a lawsuit at the beginning.

unless you drill out the orifices , a lp gas grill wont burn enough lp gas with nat gas orifices installed connected to a propane tank

I checked the propane tank. It has a brown or gray regulator. Also, the pipe they ran for the grill does indeed have a cutoff, onto which a hose is attached. The hose appears to be a 1/2" screw on type. I presume this hose could be connected to an LP type grill after removing the grill's regulator.

Hopefully I could use a quick disconnect so that I could choose to put the regulator back on and use a portable tank on the other end of the back porch (50 feet away) when I like.

Kenmac, doesn't LPG use a smaller orifice than NG??:D

You can get the different orifices to switch between NG and LPG for the same appliance. In some cases it's not legal to drill out the orifices.:D

Note; some regulators will vent to atmosphere if they fail. These cannot be installed inside.:D

you'er right egon. that was a type o I know what I wanted to say but, my fingers wouldn't type it that way.:D a grill( or any appliance with lp orifices) connected to nat. gas won't burn enough nat gas unless, propane orifices are drilled out or, replaced with ng gas orifices.

I bought the Weber EP-320 LP version. I am using a regular tank with it right now, will worry about connecting the "pig" later.

The store had assembled it so I got it home and cooked ribeyes on it tonight and it did GREAT!

When I got to the store I had the salesman call Weber and sure enough you don't get a natural gas grill for LP even if you are hooking up to the big tank.

If I can respond to this since this is a "tractor board" . Tank size don't matter . It's orifice size that is different from LP to NAT.

Propane orfices are much smaller than Nat Gas orfices. If you have a natural gas appliance and hook propane to it you'll get long yellow candles. Propane is usually run at 11 inches of water column while Nat Gas is 7 inches of WC.
