Has anyone got one of these in their shop? This is the type that is a 3 or 4 inch tube near the ceiling, with a reflector that focuses the infrared heat down to heat objects and the concrete floor.
The concept is great, but I don't know about the execution. I live in Minnesota.

I work for a local gas company and install them. We usually install the Space-Ray brand. They work well for heating areas that have alot of air loss. Check out Space Ray's website for technical info. about them. If I had a nice shop, I'd have a couple.

the gas tube infared heaters work OK but are not all that efffecient, I belive only about 60% or less... there are the gas catalaytic type which are similar but are un-vented but also 100% effecient as all the heat goes into the bld. If you are looking to install heat into a bld may I ask what kind of building what is the heating system now if any.

what is bld construction? (pole, un-insulated ect)

Is it going to be a once in a while thing to warm it up? (use to work on car then off?)

what type of gas is available? Propane / natural?

is there a slab or basement or dirt floor?

# of doors & windows & seal type (10 single pane alum windows will take a lot of heat away fast)
we can help more with these questions answered.

It is going to be about a 12x12 room inside a pole building, 8 foot ceiling.

One window, one interior door, concrete floor.

I'm thinking just put in a baseboard heater or 2. I will heat it only when I am in there to work, which won't be every day.

Ooops, propane, insulated 2x4 walls, 2x8 ceiling.

These units work great. But only heat surface. If you have items covered with vinyl it will cause cracks in one year of winter use.
I would consider a Modine Hot Dawg heater or one of it's competitors. More efficient and better heat for your size room.

Thanks, I have that exact same heater in another shop and it works great, but of course is a little breezy and the fan noise is there but tolerable. Thought I might try something new. But with the room only 12x12, an electric heater would prolly be the most cost effective as often as I plan to heat it.
