I have been thinking a chain saw style pole saw would sure beat the heck out of the manual saw I use now. Any advice or recomendations would be appreciated.
Thanks

Once you use one, you'll be glad you bought it. I would go with a gas powered one unless you have a really small yard. I would look at a Stihl, Honda, and Husqvarna.

Go with the gas if you can, I have an Echo PPT 260 and have found to be a good tool. I am sure others are good as well, I just happen to have a very good Echo dealer by me and his service reallly makes the difference.

If I needed to use one more I would have bought gas. Went with electric since I only use it a couple times a year. Haven't had any problems.

I had an electric unit that was very handy but it was destroyed and I repaced it with Stihl with the 4-Mix engine. I like it because of the easy starting and the fact that it will sit and idle all day. My neighbor bought a Shindiawa which he likes. The Stihl and Echo have an extendable pole and are heavy. The Shindiawa and Husky have a two piece pole that breaks apart for storage or transport. They are lighter. I don't think you could go wrong with any of the name brand pole saws. Just buy from a good dealer that is close by. Unless you cut firewood you will find that you will use it as much if not more than your regular chain saw.

If you have a Ryobi, Ryan, IDC, or any line trimmer that accepts attachments, Home Depot carries a chain saw attachment for $100 that looks pretty good. I bought one, but have not tried it yet. I believe it is made by "Homelite".

I've had one of these now for three years and it still works like new. I have the style where you can change attachments (M230). It is a very high quality product and is considered commercial grade.

Thanks for the advice. I have a local Stihl dealer that has sold me chain saws in the past that I will go talk to. Sounds like gas is the way to go. More $, but probably much more satisfying as I have a lot of trimming to do.

P.S. Tractor arrived today, details to come in the NH forum soon.
