Where do I begin.....
ALMOST time to plant turnips. We're 2" behind on rain for the month, hot, low humidity and slight breeze. All the makin's for dry, dusty ground. So. I just hooked up the tiller and worked up all the vacant ground in the garden. Cloud of dust should clear in a day or 2.

Well, plan on hacking up some mudpies. Hope you get some rain.

Decent amount of rain this year. First really good season we've had in a few years. Now, if it'll just behave for the harvest---

Your ground sounds like sloppy mud compared to us (ok, a little exageration). We are so dry and hot. Walk across the lawn and it crunches. Corn is popping in the fields. Trees are whistling for the dogs.

It's dry enough here that today, when I was trying to water a couple flower beds for the Mrs, the water hitting the ground was stirring up DUST!

I grow popcorn. Under "normal" conditions, it's dried down enough to pick and shell sometime in early October. How dry is it now? Planning on shelling some next weekend.

Had an uncle up in Ohio who used to grow popcorn. On year it was really hot and dry during harvest. He got all his corn in the storage bins. Well, it being so hot the corn started popping in those hot metal buildings. And you know how popcorn expands once it pops. It expanded so much that it blew the roof off. When that popcorn blew up in the air and came floating down it looked like snow and his cows froze to death!

not saying it didnt happen, but popcorn needs 300-350 deg F to pop.

Boy oh boy the "manure" is getting deep now. Let's hear some more tall tales of how hot or dry it is. :D

Been damp here in central NY. The hay has been terrific this year. The farmers have gotten 3 heavy cuttings. Finished third cutting with the neighbor on Saturday. It was heavier than second cutting was and, this year, they got the most second cutting they'd ever had. Lotsa dairy cows...so they need it.

The corn? So tall it makes astronomy difficult. Just hope it keeps standing 'til harvest.
