John Deere 790 with loader LS xr3140h also with loader plus a cab
Used the 790 to gather firewood. I cut the dead, blow-down trees off of there stumps along the road, skid them to a wide spot in the road with the the 790, saw them to 6 foot length, because thats all the longer the forest service will allow:p for some reason then load all the pieces on the trailer. This load is just under two cord. Could have done more, just ran out of time.

Very nice, do you have far to haul them once loaded?

"I have my beer goggles on..." Is it 6' so that you can not use them as saw logs?? Which typically is 8'...

PS. That's a whole lot of firewood!!!

So, in your area, you can harvest dead trees along the road right of way? You get paid, and the trees don't become road hazards. Well, I'll be.

20 20- I try to keep the travel distance not to far. This spot was around five miles from the house. After I got load all tied down and secured, I roaded the tractor to a friends house and the wife met me there with the load, then we Took the load to our house and off-loaded it by hand, It easier than it looks and then back to the friends place to fetch the 790.

teg- Yep, one of those laws. Actually got some heat from the 'forest circus' a few years back about haulin' 8 footers. They considered it for pulp wood at 8 foot...you might drop it off at the pulp plant..... I said, not if I want to stay warm this winter..... I still need about 2 more cord after this haul.... darn green gistoppo:D

Dave1949-Yep, we can harvest for "personal use" dead trees along federal or state property unless otherwise marked. I get paid buy the comfort of a healthy, crackling, hot fire.

That's a good looking haul. Nice tractor too. :)

I'm considering purchasing clamp on forks for my loader to do the same thing. Right now I have to cut rounds into shorter lengths and load them on the trailer.

Any thoughts on the clamp on forks versus your QA forks for something like this?

Like your state plan keeping road side clean...wish our state offer such plan.

Thanks bhostasa:cool: Clamp-on forks are not good. They are hard on the bucket, puts the load way out front. I built these forks from scrap bone yard items. The total money spent $50 on the QA JD hooks and pins. Ugly, adjustable and can lift more. Much better than clamp-ons. There is a thread about pros-cons on the two styles I know of, because I have replied to it:D

thomas- Its a good thing alright keeping roadsides free of fallen trees, Just ALOT of people with the same idea.

Sounds like a great system. Firewood dealers here get around $200 for a cord of cut, split and delivered hard wood. Maybe $225 if it is truly seasoned. Tree length usually runs around $120/cord.

It's all money that stays in your pocket - that's the only kind that counts

I can cut up to 10 cord,I believe, on a personal use firewood permit from the forest circus, a four cord minimum purchase at 5 bucks per cord. Cord amounts over that or if you sell it commercially, you need whats called a commercial permit from the forest circus. Thats a whole different deal I have not got into quite yet. Firewood per cord is going from anywhere from $100-140 a cord around here.It would be cheaper for me probably to buy from a "wood cutter" or "wood maggots" some folks call'em here, as we have no real firewood supplier within 100 miles. "Firewood cutters" around hear you have to watch... you dont get even lengths, everybodys idea of a cord, 4ftx4ftx8ft or 128 cubic feet is vastly different, but you do get poor quality wood or half green wood. I just have always enjoyed cutting my own firewood anyhow:D
