I've got a gator diesel, the glow plug light will not come on (thus it will not start). I've replaced the glow plug relay and the ignition switch, but still no luck. It turns over fine but won't start - midday, when it's warm, the engine will fire briefly but will not continue to run - any ideas?

Thanks

When was the fuel filter replaced? Might also look at the water trap. My gator does not need the GP to start but is clearly happier waiting for it to time out. Should also hear the fuel solenoid click when switching from off to run.

I've checked the filter & water bowl, all OK. However, when I turn the key, I do not hear a click from the fuel solenoid - and the engine turns over readily but does not seem to be getting fuel. Where is the fuel solenoid located?

KD-I have the same problem with my diesel Gator. Have you found the solution yet? I bought an electrical tester and discovered that I have power to the indicator light but it only lights up when I penetrate the other wire with the sharp end of the tester? That makes me think the circuit is not complete to the ground. Everything else works fine and the motor turns over. Has not fired yet, but it has been cooler since it quit. Had it serviced at Stark St. this winter and only a couple of hours on it since. Was hard starting after I got it back and had to wait until about 5 seconds after the glow light went out. Then it started on one revolution.

Appreciate any input from you or anyone else on this.

I have to park my 2003 Diesel Gator near the battery charger when the temp. falls below 65 degrees. It will finally start but with much wear on the starter. Once it's run for 20 minutes or so, it'll start like a new one......every time! I don't know where to start; the battery is a new Interstate. Maybe the glow plug relay, or glow plugs??
Any advice is welcome.

Thanks,

Randy

poppin I have same problem.....starts fine in moderate weather, but takes way too much cranking when temp is below 40 or so. It will finally start after filling shop with white smoke, but as you say really challenges the starter/battery. Haven't checked glow plugs yet. Can they get "weak" to cause hard start in very cold weather?
