Gator 6x4 gas rebuild

I picked up a very used 6x4 gas gator. The cooling system has problems, the seats are torn, the rear fenders & extensions are missing, and it only has 2 rear wheels & tires. This is going to be a low budget project, so I am looking for used parts. I am checking on ebay, but not a lot of used parts.

I talked to two JD dealers about used parts & they both said they never get any in there shop.

Where are all the junk Gators going. There must be some place out there that has junk Gators. I live outside Detroit Mi and can't find any around here.

Try Jim's Repair/Jim's Tractors isn Hastings MN. I got a diesel head from him for my Gator. He is a JD garden tractor junkyard, but has quite a big selection.

Not to give a smart answer, but they honestly rarely die. The 6X4 engine (FD620) is very similar to the engines used in the 425, 445 L&G tractors. Or, some non-JD tractors. The crank is different because of the clutch. If your crank is good, some of those parts might fit. But those tractors don't die much either. You could just go for traditional rebuild - bore 0.20 (or whatever is offered) and new pistons/rings. If the cylinders are good, a honing and rings might do the trick.

Get it warm and check the compression. Good = @ 200psi, minimum is 160 psi. That will give you an idea.

It is true that the Gator body parts will be hard to come by used though.

Thanks for the info. I should have the parts for the water pump today & then I can see how the engine runs. Have a leak in the plastic radiator tank but I can patch it up enough to run the motor. I will contact Jim's repair to see what he has.
