Buying Advice Gator engine? - FE250 or 290 for an early 4X2

I just bought a used Gator 4X2 and am a little confused about engines. As near as I can figure it's a 1995 and from the engine plate it has an FE250 but all of the JD documentation I can find says only the CS had that engine. They list the FE290 for the 4X2. SN is W004X2X012137.

If any one could offer any info I'd appreciate it. Thanks

I think that explains it. This thing looks like it spent most of it's life sitting inside. NO rust, tight steering and other than a broken fender, very clean.

Probably had an engine failure and sat for a few years. Then got a "new" engine from a CS and sold.
After a lot of looking this is the cleanest I've found. Other than the engine issue (the 2HP doesn't bother me) I'm happy for $1800.
