I decided to post this on the JD forum instead of the ATV/UTV forum because I felt I might get some more accurate opinions on pricing. As some of you know, I have a 2007ish model XUV Gator 850d. I recently purchased a Polaris UTV and loaned the Gator to my father. He does not like it, stating the diesel is "too noisy". The machine runs great, but I have limited need for two UTV's now and the Polaris fits my current need some better. I have kept the Gator inside and it has been babied and looks and runs like a new machine. With regard to options, it has the ITP Mudlite 27" tires and SG rims, a hydraulic lift bed, spray in Rhinoliner bed liner, Ramsey Honcho winch with dashboard activation, Electrasteer power assist steering kit, half JD poly windshield, and the JD 35 watt triple lights mounted across the top crossbar. I also have an Eagle Manufacturing front snowplow, 72". I was approached by a family friend (who also happens to work in JD sales) about purchasing my Gator. He has wanted a Gator for some time and feels that he could potentially buy a well-maintained used Gator like mine with additional features for less than his employee price on a new one. My Gator has slightly over 200 hours on it, so it is hardly worn out. I would like to sell the machine and would like to get a fair price for myself and for my friend. He has the financial wherewithall to buy the machine but has some other financial obligations (his daughter's wedding) which have resulted in his request to purchase the machine in three monthly installments of equal amounts. I have never done this type transaction before, but this man is very trustworthy and I have no reservations about giving him the 90 day window to pay. My question is getting group opinion about a rough, fair asking price for this machine with these features. This gentleman is familiar obviously with Deere equipment so I need to be be pretty market accurate initially. I do not want to overestimate the machine's worth and place him in a difficult situation, but I do not want to undersell a machine I could potentially sell elsewhere for substantially more. I would like to do business with this man, and would sell it for a bit less to do so--just not thousands less. When I log on to MachineFinder, it appears 850d Gators bring about $8K-9K with similar to more hours on them and the pictures shown reveal machines that are not in as good a shape as mine and have many fewer features. There were no machines I could find that had similar features to mine. My thought was that for my machine, given that my friend wanted to pay me over three months' time, I would ask about $9000-9500 for it, but I did not want to sound out of line. Thoughts??

Just tell him $9500 and let him make the decision. Either he will take it, turn it down, or give you a counter offer.
You are fretting about something, and I can't put my finger on it. :)

I wouldn't do a three month installment deal. Tell him you will make a deal with him, and store the gator until he gets his three month installments accumulated in his savings account. Then have the closing in three months.
I'm betting the guy can't make that commitment, but it is better for you both ways...especially if he can't.

I agree, I would tell him that you dont want to do payments and have the hassle of being owed money by him or his family "in case something happens" (he loses his job, gets run over by a bus, or whatever) but that you will hold it for him for 3 months (with a non-refundable $300 check) until he gets together the money. That you dont have to risk bad feelings with this family friend if something goes wrong.

There is certainly no fretting on my part, except to want the deal to be smooth. I opted today to tell him to save his money and I would just keep the machine until he is fully ready.

You're caught between a rock and a hard spot. I think your price sounds good. Just don't cave too much as he should be able to buy a new one at a great discount. Kinda puts you in competition with the dealer. Obviously, the guy knows what the goodies are worth and the care you have taken of it or he wouldn't give it a second thought.

Ps. HE should be familiar with some sort of non-refundable deposit. $300 sounds good to me for 90 days.

So, if its too loud for your dad, are you gonna get him an electric golf cart?
