Does anyone have any advice on the gator windshield? I have the XUV and want to know if the $350 price tag will keep the wind out of my face. I am also considering the half windshield but am not sure how well that would work.

$350 seems high. Mine was half that.

It helps allot. I only use mine in the winter.

I have the half windshield on mine and it does a really good job of keeping most of the wind out. The bottom part fits flush against the hood of the machine and the top comes right eye level when I am in the drivers seat. I am 6'6" tall, so go figure....................Roger:)

My only experience with one was on my HPX and when it gets dry out and dusty it sucks all that dust right back in and covers you and the entire gator it the stuff. I would think for winter it would be great but I don't really bother putting it on ever. The poly windshield is a bit of a pain with it's weird clamps that hold it on. I would think a half windshield would be nice, especially if it folds down like the WWII style jeeps did.

I just checked the JD website and the full windshield is $329 and the half windshield is $269. I would like to know how hard are they to remove as I would take if off in the summer. I would think the half windshield would cut down on the wind drag but I am still not convinced it would block that much wind which is the purpose for having it in the first place. I would like to see a fold down half windshield which would serve both purposes.

One interesting thing I did notice while on the Gator web site is that JD now offers a poly cab for the HPX or XUV to fit on the standard ROPS. The full windshield and poly roof are required and are not part of the kit. The poly cab kit has a back window, poly frame that fits over the ROPS, and removable side doors with windows. It claims to make a tight seal. I think it is a little pricey at $1699 for the kit, $359 for the roof and $329 for the windshield for a total of $2387, but you still have a plastic cab. I would like to see one set up before I bought. I am going to the National Farm Machinery Show in Louisville in February, perhaps they will have one there.

It does not block all wind, but takes care of a bunch of it. It also is good for keeping limbs from slapping the chit outta you when in the woods.:D

Kahuna,

I have had both and prefer the half windshield. It has a lip on the top that diverts the wind away from driver and passenger. It works at least as well as the full windshield in most cases and is a little less expensive. I like the way it folds up also if you want a "little wind in the hair" feeling or need to get into the front storage area or service the radiator. My neighbor, our renowned congressman, former college football star and pro football---not star---has a full windshield on his XUV. (I like that he likes John Deere products). I don't think he likes it in warmer temps as he has had it off quite a lot this past summer and fall. (As I think Skip also does). He keeps it on in winter and today he had it on (7" snow). His groundskeeper has mentioned that they may change to the half windshield for warmer temps and keep the full for only really bad weather days, but they can justify one of each--which most of us cannot. My half windshield was bought at just under $200.00 and I personally feel the additional $100.00, though not that much, is too much for the additional scant protection the full offers. My last full windshield would not fold, either, although they might have changed this. If you are going to be using your machine in rain or snow a lot, go with the full as the half will not keep rain or snow off you; if not, the half will do great for you for less $$$. One feature I like about both windshields in this cold we have had recently had is they hold heat in the cabin area. The diesel engine on my XUV seems to run rather warm and the cabin area is about 20 degrees warmer than the surroundings secondary to the circulating engine heat. I also noticed this with my gas XUV, just not as much. Neither is difficult to remove or install, but I have never felt the NEED to remove my half windshield due to its folding feature.
