Date: 4 October 2007
Subject: JD Sales: Stop Sale Notice for Certain XUV and HPX Utility Vehicles Note: Region II is only involved with the HPX. The XUV is not yet sold in those markets. Issue: Potential for front brake calipers to be incorrect.
To: JOHN DEERE DEALER OF RECORD
Effective immediately, please do not sell, demonstrate, or deliver machines from the attached list.
A PIP will be published on or before 8 October to address this situation. The PIP will have Dealers inspect calipers (front and rear on XUV, only front calipers on HPX) and identify machines that will need to have calipers replaced.
Machines may be released from this Stop-Sale upon successful completion of the inspection procedure (which will be the first step in the PIP when announced) located on the second page of this document. Please be aware that as we gear up for release of the PIP, parts will not be readily available. Keep track of the units you inspect prior to PIP release. Identify those units that need calipers replaced and quarantine. When the PIP is released, complete any caliper updates that are needed and file the claim per PIP bulletin instructions.
If you have questions prior to PIP release, or have a retail sale pending, please enter a DTAC case through Pathways for additional information, if required.
Please share this document with your dealership General Manager, Sales Manager, and Service Manager. We apologize for any inconvenience that this issue may cause you or your customers.

INSPECT BRAKE CALIPER LOCATION
For XUV, check both front and rear calipers for correct caliper installation on both sides of the vehicle.
For HPX, only front calipers need to be inspected on both sides of the vehicle.
The rear calipers are easy to see from the rear of the machine.
For inspecting front calipers, turn wheels hard to the left and view the calipers from under the vehicle passenger platform (right side).
Front Caliper Inspection:
Front Caliper Photo. Look at the bleeder screws (A) and (B). They should be straight with the banjo bolt (C).
Rear Calipers Inspection
Note: HPX vehicles do not require checking rear calipers.
Rear Caliper Photo. Look at the bleeder screws (D) and (E). They should be angled away from the banjo bolt (F).
