A few days ago I did a post looking for a tiller gauge wheel. I have found one however several people have told me that they have taken the gauge wheels off and control the depth with the 3pt. lever. I was wondering if I could get pros and cons of doing this from other Yarmar owners. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

It really depends on how consistent of a tilling depth you want. The guage wheels allow you to set a max depth, drop the tiller and go. IF you try to do that with the 3pt control lever you will be jockeying it up and down unless you are on perfectly level ground. If the tractor wheels drop into a hole with the guage wheels setting depth and the tiller just floating on them the depth stays more consistent. For example if the front wheels drop into a low spot the tiller comes up vice versa if the rear wheels drop into the same rut the tiller will go down deeper. Guage wheels cant stop all of that movement but help to minimize it.
