I am getting ready to change the fluid in the hydro/trans and filter. I have read on here about cleaning the screen when you do this. Could someone please tell where the screen is so I can make sure and clean it.

Filter is on bottom right and PTO on bottom left. I just do not see the screen everybody is talking about.

Many thanks in advance, Gator3.

Its located on the inlet of the suction pipe coming out of the transmission. Need to remove the suction tube.

Unless I'm mistaken, you also need to remove one of the rear wheels -- can't remember which side.

You need to remove the left tire.

Once that's off, it's easy to access.

Seems like someone else posted a caution about this procedure - maybe being careful to avoid cross threading when replacing? Don't remember for sure.

That's the scoop.

Not cross threading it on, should go without saying. But, someone did make a point of posting that.

Also note not to over tighten it. I have read and heard of ham fisted people breaking the end off. This then becomes something of a pain. Removal of broken piece and wallet.

Perhaps this will help, in addition to the good advice already given.

Someone else suggested using anti-seize on the threads, which is what I did. I'm not sure about the sealant qualities of anti-seize, but I've only put about a dozen hours on since I did the service and so far there have been no drips.

Seemed like a reasonable idea since it will likely be a couple years before I get the next 250 hours and need to service it again.

I wouldn't put anti-seize on there. That's an aluminum housing. Anti-seize has aluminum in it. Makes for a seizing situation. It's great stuff for steel, but kinda work backwards on aluminum.
You don't need to take the tire off, it just makes it easier. The screen will sneak out inside the tire. Oh, yes, don't overtighten it as said. It's not that hard to get the broken piece out!

Put some thread sealant on it, hand start it, and snug it up with a wrench. No reason to try to torque it down, it is not going to hold the tractor together. I would say anti-seize is probably not necessary, the thread sealant will work fine in this case, it is just not that tight.

There are several types of anti-seize. The zinc type, is one for steel to aluminum. All types seem to work better than nothing, when combining different types of metal, since they are going to corrode either way.

With today's 70k mile spark plugs, and aluminum heads, and 30 years of working on cars, not using it there, is too scary for me.
