Hey, anybody out there ever have their snowblower apart, specifically to remove/replace the fan (impeller)? Any tips on how to do that?

Thanks, irivngj

Merry Christmas! Spent today changing the dogbone mount and the battery in my Jetta TDI now, back to the tractor.

I'm assuming the auger assembly (two bearings on either end) needs to (will) come out from the front, but I was wondering if anyone had ever had the impeller apart from the blower. I suppose I could figure it out, but I was just wondering if anyone had been there before and might be able to save me some time & headaches. I really need to hammer the ends of the impeller flat again --too many rocks!-- and maybe put in one of those Clarence's Kit things. Plastic ends on the blades seems like a great idea.

Hope everyone had a happy holiday! irvingj

You are correct with the auger assy, 3 bolts on each end, pull shear pin on impeller, disconnect drive chain, remove the top chain sprocket, ( may need puller), every thing then pulls out the front (auger assy, impeller drive shaft).
Impeller will fall down to bottom of blower (about a half inch), then remove it to straighten/repair as needed.
Rocks are a wonderful thing, I had to replace portions of the blower where the gravel had eaten holes thru the sides and bottom. FUN!!!

Thanks, amkfen.

That's sorta what I figured; all I have is a parts blow-up for the snowblower. Looks like it might make sense to separate the mounting bracket from the rear of the blower (to make it easier to get at the drive system?), then remove drive chain & sprocket(s). It looked like then, if the auger bearings were pulled, the whole shootin' match would slide out the front: auger, auger reduction gear, and fan/impeller/shaft.

I still have a pic of your slick caster set-up! I tried a similar idea, with limited success, but then got my driveway paved. :cool2: Only problem I have now is that the scraper blade gets torn up pretty fast. Replaced it last year and it's already showing wear. Must be pretty soft steel. The rocks now come from the top of my driveway, where my pavement meets the dirt road-- but that's still enough!
