Howdy folks, my 1705 hit 52 hours while I was spreading out 12 yards of class five for my shop project and now I need to change oils, I知 not taking it back to the dealer for the 50 hour first service I figured I would do filters and oil then go through all the nuts and bolts, it has been running just fine this year.
I went and purchased the filter package and hydraulic filter now I need to figure out what oil I want to run and what hydraulic oil to use so I am not tied up in having to drive 42 miles to dealer, we have a couple different fleet farms within 25 miles of us to get oils.
My question is what are some of you running in your GC series tractors.

I still run the permatran 821 for hydraulics and front axle but have changed my motor oil to Rotella T5 diesel blend.

I have seen that some are going to Rotella, I will put Rotella on my list and permatran on my hydraulic/Front axel list.

I just changed the oil not long ago, I used rotella t6. I got nearly everything on hand for the 200 hr service, which I expect to be doing before the end of the year. I ordered amsoil synthetic for the hydro and axle.

Mobil Delvac 1 ESP Heavy Duty Full Synthetic Diesel Engine Oil 5W-40. I've used the 0W-40 version for almost 15 years now. I have a shed with no electricity for tractor storage, so no battery tender or block heater. Definite difference in winter starting.

Mine sits in cold storage but I can run about 100 foot cord so I can plug it in, I would think any hydraulic oil that meets permatran lll specs will work, I’ll see what the parts store has, living in a big farming community I would think the Napa would have a acceptable replacement hydraulic oil.

I always look at the Pour Point and Viscosity Index of my fluids. The lower the pour point, the easier it flows at low temperature. The higher the VI, the less change in the fluid, so it does not thin out as much when at high temperatures. You get what you pay for, from the base stock to the additive package (which can provide up to half of the lubricant's qualities)

A little bit of my history. The hydro filter ruptured on my GC2300 on a cold morning startup with the factory fill fluid. It was too thick (too high a PP) for the cold temps. it happens. That was at 35 hours.
Taken by the Dealer for an early 50hour service, who used what I assume was a Permatran spec'd bulk oil. By 110 hours, the oil looked like chocolate milk due to water contamination. Changed it out again. I looked for the best oil I could find. Amsoil wasn't readily available, but was able to get the Duratran full Synthetic. I've used it for 2 changes in the last 12 years, never an issue with it. Tractor currently has c. 800 hours, and due for another change.

SCUTs run hotter than larger equipment, a quality oil benefits them greatly. There are no actual specs for these oils, "meets spec" can be very deceiving. If you are running in extreme cold, and hot summer temps, a quality hydro oil is necessary. Before determining on price alone, determine the hours/years that the fluid will be in the tractor. Do you really save that much?

Added a little chart that compares some of the oils. I rated them as I think they rank, so take it with a grain of salt. Due to the combination of price/availability my next change is going to be Kubota SUDT2.

I use permatran as well. Rotella is what I used in the motor. I just crossed 400hrs on my 1705 2016. Ill be changing my tranny oil for the third time this winter and my front axle for the 4th time. Motor oil is changed every winter as well. Fuel filter every year as well for good measure. I have had only one issue. I would get on my tractor and if i hit a bump or something it would cut out. I took it in and come to find out it was the switch under the seat. The switch that meets the seat had given in a bit and when a little bit of my weight would come off the tractor thought i was getting off while in gear. So it was a simple fix. I have moved many trips-axle loads of dirt with this thing. Very useful.

So, about the "I went and purchased the filter package and hydraulic filter ... " part ...
- Do you have to go to the dealer for that package, or do you find it on-line somewhere?
