Hey All,

Haven't posted in a while, but got a problem I could use the brain trust to weigh in on. Up to about 310 hours on my GC1720. Didn't get much use with the blower over the winter, but have mowed a few time already. Noticed a whining noise from the engine. See the video below. I am in neutral, loader and backhoe are off, the MMM is on, but all PTOs are off, so its just engine noise you hear. It didnt sound like this at first, started sometime when moving, but with hearing protection on, I dont know exactly when. So there may be a heat component, meaning it happens when warm. But take a listen and let me know what you think.

Almost forgot to mention, the tractor bogged down and I got a bit of black smoke when going up the small hil in my backyard. I've never had that problem before. I've goen up that hill with the loader and backhoe on at less than full throttle with no problem, its not a big/steep hill. But this time, with just me and the mower, with the mower on, she bogged down a bit. My first thought was to maybe replace the fuel filter, but then she started whining/squealing.

Alternator?

Yeah, sounds like belt squeal. Check alternator belt, then Alternator and fan.

Just saw this thread for the first time, but based on those bits, I was going to suggest ...

But you beat me to it.

Not sure what your air intake looks like, but some of us that have had that problem added some 1/4" hardware cloth over it. Lets air pass easily, but not critters.

HW cloth sounds like a good idea. Do seem to see a lot of mice in the works. one took out my ac compressor for my house a few years back.
