GC2300 bucket hoses

2004 GC2300, 160hours, lives outside. Three weeks ago one of the short hoses for the bucket cylinder started leaking at the swagged end of the loader arm fitting. Promptly went to get a new one. Considered replacing both, but cheaped it out and just replaced the one. Today I had to go back to the hydraulic shop to replace the the other hose. Leaking in the same spot. My lesson learned was to replace in pairs.

FWIW, unless there were visible signs of wear...... i would only replace the one that was leaking also.

Of course, i'd probably be making the second trip to the shop just like you.

At the prices your local hose shop charges, no one can blame you for "going cheap" as you called it. The markup on a simple hose assembly is ridiculous. I bet you could have bought both hoses from Discount Hydraulic Hose.com for less than you paid for one at your local shop.

Of course, I might be a little biased. I happen to work there.

At the prices your local hose shop charges, no one can blame you for "going cheap" as you called it. The markup on a simple hose assembly is ridiculous. I bet you could have bought both hoses from Discount Hydraulic Hose.com for less than you paid for one at your local shop.

Yep, mail order it, wait, is it the right one? maybe, maybe not. Oh, you have a problem now, mail order again, wait. Call on a Saturday, oh, you guys don't work Saturdays. I'll make a hose for anyone 10:00 Saturday night or 5:00 Sunday morning, I've done both within the past month. All this for your inferior hose made with fillers rather than a pure nitrile liner, ours has a UV resistant coating and yours is rubber, and plenty of anti-corrosives on the fittings instead of a minute zinc dusting, if that. I have seen the lab reports. I'll join my hydraulic hose to yours any day and pump up the pressure and see whose bursts first. I've got more posts here helping people on unpaid time than you have helping people when you're getting paid.

Of course I might be biased, I own a local hose shop. Please don't paint with such a broad brush.

Drop attacking us local guys and I'll do the same. I don't want to get into a peeing match and I won't. Lay-off bad mouthing us, and I will do the same. Deal?

Andy AndyNot all shops carry quality hose like you do, nor do they provide the after hours service that you do. From my experience more don't than those that do. In addition to those differences there are people that have to drive a long distance burning a lot of expensive fuel just to get to decent shop. It would be very nice to have a local shop of the quality of yours. I do have a good Parker store but it is about 40 miles away. These are some of the reasons some mail order.

Full service shop with off hours is good. I know we go thru a lot of hoses in the plow trucks in winter. I add spiral sheiding to my hoses on backhoe,tractor anywhere it can chafe. I'd imagine braided hose could work better. I do have a local hydraulic shop near me and NAPA. I never give price of hose a thought,if it is good quality and gets the job done. My wife used to run a dump trailer or live bottom. You blow a hose on them ,you have a real mess and out lots of fluid. plowking

We have a local hose shop, from the looks of their property, they don't appear to be getting rich.

I own a well used fairway mower with about 20 hoses, some more than 12 feet long. The local guys are here when I need them in a pinch, to get it up and running fast. I leave there with exactly what I want, and they are still 25% cheaper than buying OEM.

Andy takes pride in his business, and I don't blame him for being defensive.

Ken, there might be an occasion were when I am fabricating, or rebuilding something, and ordering hoses could be an option. Keep in mind that having a machine up and running again, inside an hour, is worth a lot sometimes.

If you need it now, and your local guy is out of business, leaving waiting for UPS, or driving 50 miles as the only options, the cost is no longer important.
