Hello all
First time poster, long time reader and I have a few questions that I cant seem to find answers for and I was hoping that you guys could help me out. I am thinking of buying a Sub-Compact after or around the first of the year and I have my heart set on the GC2300 w/FEL 60"MMM. Kubota 2230 w/ same set up is running a close second. When did Massey introduce the GC2300 series tractor? I am trying to figure out why I don't see very many used ones for sale. I can shop for used botas all day on Ebay and terahub as there seem to be alot of them out there. Is it that the people that have the GC's haven't had them long enough to make a trade in/sale financially feasible, or are they so good no one wants to get rid of them?

Secondly, from reading on this board I can only think of 1 downfall of the GC which is the placement of the hydo filter. Apparently it is in a bad spot and can make for a costly repair if I go "dukes of hazard" with this machine. Can the hydro filter be relocated or is it possible to fab up a skid plate to alleviate this issue when the MMM is removed?

Any input will be greatly appreciated.

The GC2300 is a very good sub tractor. My brother-in-law has one with FEL, 60 MMM, and snowblower, and bucket forks, and he likes it very much. He's had it about a year. I believe they have been around almost two years now, but it might not have been quite that long, I can't remember.

The reason you don't see more around is pretty simple. It is my understanding that currently, Kubota controls 60% of all compact (and presumably subcomapct) sales, John Deere about 20%, New Holland about 10%. With only 10% of the market left for Massey, Kioti, Mahindra, Cub Cadet, and a few others to scrap over, it's pretty easy to figure why you don't see more GC2300's for sale.

I helped my BIL shop for his, and I thought it was the best subcompact around at the time, all things considered. All the sub offerings from everyone seem to be pretty decent.

UncleBubba,
A skid plate can be fabricated for almost any situation.
Welcome to TBN.
The Kubota may be a little more popular than the GC2300 due to the market share that Kubota has, but I think they look like they have good specs. Both units are new enough that you won't see many used ones for sale.

Hey Uncle, did you get all the answers to your questions? If you look through my posts, I think I have brought up a few potential downfalls of the GC2300, but overall I'm still pleased with my tractor. Drop me a note if you have any specific questions. (I would have sent you a PM, but sometimes new posters aren't familiar with that feature). Good luck!
