Just to show how tough a GC2300 and the ROP on it is I thought I would pass on this accident story. Last summer I had a neighbour helping me with some yard work and he asked to try out my GC2300. He worked running a tractor on a farm so I gave him a quick rundown on the operation of the tractor and off he went. He tried to switch the tractor ftom turtle to rabbit while it was on a slope and it started rolling backwards. He couldn't get the shifter in gear because the tractor was rolling and paniced, forgot there was a brake. The tractor went down my driveway, steep slope, picking up speed and at the base of the driveway the 3 point hitch arms dug into the ground, causing the tractor to flip up backwards, spin on the ROP bar and crash down on the hood. He was not hurt (thank the Lord) and the only damage to tractor was a scuffed ROP, Sheet metal damage and a broken raditor. Moral to story - DON'T LEND YOUR STUFF!!

You must have already cleaned out the brown spot in the gray seat cause it's gone. Seriously, I know it had to have scared the crap out of that poor fellow. As for borrowing stuff, I bet he won't ever ask to do that again. It's just fortunate that he wasn't hurt. That sheetmetal and radiator can always be replaced.

When we got the tractor fixed, the local dealer came up to the house and trailered it to their shop, checked it all over, ordered the parts and installed them, changed all the fluids and delivered it back to my house for $450 labour. The parts and taxes made the whole bill $2002. I thought this was reasonable, the sheetmetal parts were prepainted and matched perfectly!
As far as insurance, that was where I really got ticked off. When we bought the tractor I called and put a rider on my house insurance to make sure we were covered. When the accident happened, my insurance agent told me that this was a collision claim and I was not covered as you need "special" insurance for collision, which would have been about $350 per year and this was not offered to me because "nobody" gets it on their small tractors. I was told if it had gotten stolen, has a tree fall on it or just fell off a truck I would have been covered for full replacement costs. I guess honesty cost me some $$$.
Oh yeah, the guy who forgot the brake - I haven't seen him since the accident!

forgot there was a brake.

That is a parking brake not a stopping brake.

The no.1 rule in operating one of these little tractors is
never never never never never did I say NEVER ever take it out of gear without the parking break set!
