A couple of questions for all you GC2310 owners out there...

I don't use the PTOs, but in checking them out, I noticed that with the rear and mid PTO lever in the off/forward position if I put the PTO clutch into on/forward position, I clearly hear a gear turning sound. This is the same sound that I hear if I engage the rear PTO lever and then engage the PTO clutch. Because I have the BH on and there's a cover on the rear PTO, I can't actually see if it's rotating when the rear lever isn't engaged, but it sure sounds the same as when it's engaged. Anybody elses tractor do this?

According to the specs, the transmission oil capacity is 2.9gals and my understanding is that this oil is used for the transmission, center housing, rear axle and all the hydraulics. I guess I'm a little surprised that it does this with only 2.9gals. Do I have this right?

The manual suggests raising the wheels off the ground to protect the wheels during long periods of non-use (like December-April for me). How likely is it that the wheels will be effected if I don't do this?

#1) Yes, this is normal.

#2) I don't have my manual handy but 2.9 gallons sounds about right. It is a sub-compact tractor.

#3) Mine is on the ground all year. I can only imagine it will affect the tires (slightly out of round from sitting for a few months). I can't imagine it will affect the wheels themselves. I do use mine in the winter for snowblowing and haven't noticed any problems.

Dewpro,

Thanks for the response.

Yeesh, I drove by a Kubota dealer the other day. When deciding on the tractor, I compared specs but never saw a Bx24 in person. So, I stopped by and "kicked the tires". Why would anyone choose a Bx24 over the Massey? BH control box shook like it was going to fall off. BH controls shafts reminded me of tooth picks. Stabilizers were Much smaller than MF. But, paint job was excellent. 'nuf said.

Was it a real kubota or aftermarket hoe? I like the look of the Woods hoe on Kubotas. I like my GC2310 a lot also. You might have to pick your words or opinions a little more carefully. Owners of other tractor might take it the wrong way. Have fun with your 2310. plowking

I've got my owners manual right here. Yup, 11 litres of UTTF (universal tractor transmission fluid), equal 2.91 US gal.

I always wear earplugs, so I can't comment on hearing the rear PTO turn. I too have the BH on all the time so far.

I can't imagine that letting the machine sit for 4-5 months will do anything. Old bias ply car tires would set and go wop/wop/wop until the flat spot smoothed out, but I've never noticed this with radial tires, including on my summer toys that sit for 6-7 months of the year. No one would notice an out of round tractor tire at the slow speeds it's used. Unless it's a racing tractor :) Maybe it puts more pressure on the wheel bearing if left in one spot, I'm not sure. But again, imagine how long they sit waiting for shipment, on the dealer's lot, etc. I wouldn't, and dont', worry about it.

Thanks for the tire comments, I won't worry about it either.

I don't mean to offend Kubota owners, and I did mean the paint job was excellent - for some reason it looks nicer than the MF to me. We all know that Kubota has great reliability. What I don't get is why the GC 23xx seems to have such a smaller following when compared to the BX2- when you compare the specs and see them in person.

On the other hand, I'm not impressed with the MF web site. I think Kubota has a much more user-friendly site. Where are the on-line MF recalls, notices, surveys, documentation? On-line documentation now a days is the norm, not the exception for world-class manufactures.

I'd like to see the GC series become as popular as the BX2-... Does MF practice continuous improvment, Ito, ACE? Do they listen to their customers? Do they monitor this site, do they contribute to it? ...all things that would help attract new GC buyers.

I like what Kubota just did replacing their BX-24 seats for a nominal fee (hint, hint MF). Isn't the seat is a weak spot on the GC2xx too? Boy that new BX seat looks comfortable.

The Kubota dealer that is prominent on this site and has put together the step-by-step service document with pics, did an excellent job. Has any MF dealer stepped up to the plate with somthing similar (please, please)?

Hi,N1ST, I noticed I had to go ask about the filter guard, heard about it on here. The 2310 and some other subcompacts take smaller or narrower three point attachments, then the larger tractors. As a result these are more expensive to purchase. I'm using a plow and york rake made for a little larger tractor with same horsepower, if I like I will buy them. To buy a york or Landpride or Woods rakes will probaly run 800.00-1000.00 with the wheel kit. One dealer mentioned to me to look at Kodiak landscape rakes. I can't justify spending a lot of money, but my wife works for contractor and if they get enough work to use it regularly, then I will probably spend the money. I didn't mean to criticize your opinion of Kubota. I visit other websites for my toys and things get heated, when brand loyalty, pride get involved. plowking

The tires are more likely to be damaged by the sun's rays if left outside then by resting on the ground. It can only take a few years to get bad weather checking. Nothing looks better than some spray on tire shine UV protectant on a freshly waxed tractor :)

Another person that is going to say the gear noise is normal. Yep, it's normal, even asked the dealer, also said it was normal. Something to do with the straight cut gears. Kubotas do have a nice paint job, but I have to say the litlle MF'er does a fantastic job at whatever I throw at it.

I'm not sure that this is the case with the GC23... I rented a KingKutter TG-60 tiller and although it is really bigger than we should use with these tractors (recommended PTO HP is 25-40), I was able to use it.

I was informed that it wouldn't fit a BX-23 because the 3PH arms wouldn't open wide enough but I have never bothered to confirm this (didn't plan on buying a BX-23 even though I looked at it when I was shopping).

I also never measured just how wide the arms would open but my tractor has taken every cat 1 attachment that I have borrowed, rented or bought.
