I'm a newbie GC2410 owner with 119 hours so far, back asking for more advice. I did the full service at 50 hours except cleaning the transmission suction filter. Recently I finally bought a lug wrench and small telescoping mirror and magnet, which I gathered from previous posts might be useful for this maintenance. Questions:

1) what is the size of the rear wheel lug nuts--19 mm? The lug wrench doesn't give an exact fit :(, and I don't find the size in the manuals.

2) Is it possible to remove and clean the filter without having to drain and change all the transmission fluid?

Scott,

1) You don't have to remove the rear wheel to remove and clean the suction filter. You can loosen the filter and back it out, sliding it inside the ID of the wheel rim. My experience with lug wrenches is they tend to not fit very well (lots of slop). I use a impact socket, but any good socket will be fine. I don't remember the size at the moment. Use a 1/2 torque wrench to reinstall the wheel lugs if you do remove them. The torque spec is in the manual.

2) I believe it would be difficult to clean the filter with out draining the fluid. The filter is at a fairly low point in the tranny. You need to remove the filter slowly and carefully. I think most of the fluid will drain as you are taking the filter out of the hole. I suppose in theory you could lay the tractor on its side so the filter is at the high point, but that is not realistic.

Scott- assuming the GC24XX is the same as my 2310, the rear wheel lug nuts are 22mm (.866"), an infrequently used size for most of what I do.

Closest inch size is 7/8 (.875"), which can be used, but is a bit sloppy.

tsteahr- too bad the tractor's not as easy to lay on its side as my XL250 dirt bike!
