The hydraulic line (with the yellow zip tie) to the backhoe valve burst on me. I went to Princess Auto and got a new line made up that night. Threaded onto the valve underneath the right footboard where the old one was removed. Installed quick coupler onto end of new line and then connected back into backhoe quick coupler, fired up the tractor and then voila NOTHING!

So what did I do wrong? I assumed the new hose would fill itself and the air would cycle through the system and get purged at some kind of air vent on the pump or am I dreaming?

I have since tried it with putting the couplers into 3PH mode with yellow to blue and then red capped to see if that would purge the line but nothing.

Still no movement on the backhoe, the FEL works like it should. Can someone tell me what I am missing. First time tractor owner, not stupid just a newbie. I can be taught I think.

Thanks again,
Glen

Yes, it should be self bleeding.

Moving the levers to full stop until the air is out, should do it.

That''s what I thought/have been told but no luck. The other possibility is that I lost so much fluid that there isn't any getting to the line? I can't seem to see any on the glass so I added about 3 litres tonight which was all I had left but no luck and still didn't seem to see any fluid on the sight glass?

The thing that bugs me about the idea of not having enough fluid is that there is still enough fluid to run the FEL to full height and full dump. I was running the tractor at PTO rpm though when the line burst which if left running for any length of time could end up loosing a lot of fluid. It is hard for me to remember/tell exactly how long it ran after it started leaking.

If you lost a lot of hydraulic oil, you certainly want to fill it, until you see it in the sight glass. Try and cycle it again, and recheck the fluid level, if you get some movement.

That still could be the problem, though it would seem odd that the FEL still works. The FEL seems as though it may use less fluid.

Hope that solves the problem.

The hoe holds alot of fluid, as long as you don't hear the pump screaming (or no fluid) it should bleed the air out.

Haven't seen you here in a while. Been in hiding?

Thanks for the help guys. Got everything up and running and now understand the hydraulic system a little better on the tractor.

Turns out there was debris in the line where I threaded it onto the valve underneath the floor board. Disconnected the line and saw it. Use some compressed air to blow it out through and voila the fluid started flowing.

Was able to finish my tree root project. Now all that is left is when it stops raining to level and compact the new shed foundation.

Thanks for the report, will add that to the list of things to have people check.

FWIW here is another twist you may want to watch out for involving that hydraulic line. If it has those same yank, pull, twist ,knock or even hit a bump QD's my 1736 has you will note one more evil trick. You have already seen how easily that gets knocked loose but it has another ugly side.
When the hoe is off and you have the bypass loop running and suddenly you notice your brush hog is dragging on the ground the first thing you go to is that hose. Yea, right, a glance to see it's in place and still nothing. If you encounter that and all the rest of your hydro works fine and there is no pump screaming like the books says look closer and give it a tug. Mine at least will cock slightly to the side. It's so slight that you won't see it without the hairy eyeball but it's cocked just enough to cut your 3 pt out completely.
That's what mine has done on a couple of occasions. A friend of mine said that rather than the curley cue righ the dealer put in to add a 90 fitting to it so it wants to come up and go straight in. That will take most of the strain off the coupler.
