My 1100D has just started to have some gear clash. I thought it might be the transmission oil, so I changed it. The problem occurs when shifting in high range from 1st to reverse when plowing snow. I push a load of snow into the bank, tractor is stopped, engage clutch and shift from 1st into reverse, but I feel the gears still turning, If it is gently push into gear it will go, but I hate the clashing.....does not do it when cold (thick oil) but once warmed up....I belive clutch is adjusted properly, any thoughts?? when plowing snow this is a real pain in the a$$.

Thanks

If the clutch is, in fact, adjusted properly, (3/4" free play), then you need a new clutch.

Thanks for the reply. Why do think it is the clutch?? If the clutch was wearing out, would the friction plate be getting thinner, but the movement of the clutch plate still be enough to disengage the gears, If the plate was wearing I would think I would get slippage within the drive system........Just wondering why this sounds like a clutch wear issue........I am starting to think that as my transmission oil thins ( due to heat from use) the friction within the pilot bushing and the input shaft overcomes the resistance of the oil and causes the gears to continue to move...this is why when the tractor is "cold" the tranmission oil is thick and the oil overcomes the input shaft/pilot bushing friction.....what do you think?? Make any sense or not.....

Thanks for your consideration and reply.

Nah, worn/broken pressure plate actuators, bad throwout bearing, etc. preventing clutch from fully disengaging. I have replaced several on cars for same problem.

If your theory proves out, you should have it written up!
Interesting, but never in 40 years of twisting wrenches have I heard or seen it happen .
I did however have a 3500 Ford backhoe with a clutch that would stick when warm. Due to some slippage and a glazed/greasy flywheel, when under load such as pushing up against a snow bank the disc would stick to the flywheel. Turns out that the pressure plate was improperly adjusted.
However, Norm's response is the most likely answer.
