I’m interested in feedback on a situation I’m experiencing:

I have a new 7610 w/MMM and recently purchased a rotary cutter. I found that disengaging the rear PTO (540) caused heavy grinding; specifically, I could not put the PTO gearshift lever in neutral with the clutch depressed. Only after letting the rotary cutter come to a complete stop could I release the clutch w/the gear shift lever in neutral.

My dealer told me that when operating a rear PTO implement I need to detach the MMM drive shaft. This worked for a short while but I’m now getting grinding again when I put the gearshift lever in neutral.

Does this seem normal?

Any advice is much appreciated.

It almost sounds like there is an overrunning clutch in there. Ask your dealer if there is.

What RPM are you at when disengaging the PTO?

If you're doing this at PTO RPM (2600 or so), I'd reduce the engine speed to 1200 RPM...

If your tractor doesn't have a tach, just throttle down as low as you can.
