Hi and thank you for the inputs. Today I went to the Kubota dealer and they use UDT compatible oil for the front axle of newer tractors and Valvoline 85W-140 gear oil for the drive gear of the excavators. I bought the Valvoline.

We have an L3830 also, and our dealer recommended 80-90 gear oil for the front axle. I don't think it matters what brand.

Hi everybody: I have to change the gear oil in the front axle of my L3830 and in the drive gear of the KX 71-3 excavator I have. The problem is I do not know where to buy it because every shop I went seems to have only store brand (Napa, Wall Mart etc) which I'm not sure I trust. Any recommendations? What everybody uses? Another small question: is Rotella T triple protection engine oil, which is rated CJ-4, good for the machines I have which are not tier 4 (low emissions). In other words is this oil usable in tier 3 older engines? Thanks.

I buy my gear oil from napa, tsc, and walmart.

I have 70 and 95 hp tractors with walmart UTF in them.. been that way for years with no problems. Got a couple loader tractors with walmart and tsc gear oil in them. got an 8n with napa gear oil in it.

Nowadays.. it's hard to find BAD lube... just get one that meets your manufacturers specs..etc. and then maintain the machine as per the manual says..

Funny- I too have lately had trouble finding gear oil. Since almost all current vehicles are front drive it sure isn't used near as much as it used to be. I was looking for it for my truck but also wanted to put it in the front axle of my BX24.
TSC around here does NOT carry name brand gear oil. They have the Citgo brand of motor oils but only the Traveler brand of gear oil. Not gonna buy that- sorry, it is probably made by Warren oil which has a checkered reputation.
BTW I chuckle every time I see TSC's Traveler brand. I know there is no connection but here in SC we have the infamous Traveler klan well know for ripping people off- they have their own community near North Augusta SC called Murphy Village. TSC apparently didn't do their due diligence picking the name or they might have wanted not to use Traveler as a brand:cool: Cons, Frauds and Other Lies

TSC gear oil is fine.. I have use dit in my tractors.. nothing has burnt to the ground or blown up in the barn yet.

And yes.. I'm the kind of guy that filters some oil thru coffee filters looking for metalic particles when i do changes.. etc..
