Hello,

I filled my gearbox with 80W90 with no problems (filled until it dripped from sight plug). My question is about the two plugs on the shaft that comes from the side of the gearbox to the belt. There is a plug on the top and one on the side. Is there suppose to be gear oil in the shaft as well? There was nothing in the instruction manual, but it was extremely under detailed to begin with.

Hello NateLambs,

Is your new integrally mounted farm implement err, beast of burden, err, toy, err, forever mower, the last mower you will ever need, that you can use on the next mule in your stable and save lots of money that you otherwise would waste on a rotary cutter or rotary mower a Del Morino Flail Shredder???????????

I want to welcome you as the newest Canadian resident member of the "Flail Mower Nations" from the great city of Guelf, Ontario,Canada.

The steel tube is there to cover the Flail Mower Cross Shaft to comply with the European Unions farm equipment safety regulations. The Steel tube is also there to help maintain the rigidity of the Flail Mower Shroud weldment as well.

The only thing you have to worry about is the oil level in the gearbox of the flail mower pumping in 6 shots or less of grease in the flail mower rotor bearings-one which is under the ventilated V Belt Guard cover and the two bearings in the rear roller and greasing the tensioner arm bushing if this model has a spring to tension the V-Belt Snubber or Flat Pulley.

The Flange Bearing that supports the Cross Shaft under the V Belt Shroud has a seal on the inner side of the bearing flange that is simply there to hold the grease in.

Many of the manufactured parts(Weldments) that European builders of farm machinery use for their rototillers and flail mowers are common to both Integrally Mounted Implements so no worries there my dear friend.

Some flail mowers use oil in that shaft housing. It's used to lubricate the top belt drive bearing. I think the Chinese flails like this one often do. Check with the seller.

I concur with Eric. My New Holland 918 has similar plugs on the cross shaft which lubricates the pulley end bearing. I don't think you will see a zerk at that bearing. I wonder about that arrangement though, after doing miles of road side ditch with right side tires in the ditch.

I think this is a Chinese flail mower. These 2 oil plug are used to fulfill and take out oil in this shaft tube. But for the upper plug, it seems that it cannot let air come out, not good, I already changed that plug to let air come out, because it will be hot inside when working, so the pressure inside could be high because of heat. I usually suggest customer to fulfill half oil into this shaft tube.

I find the bolt and nut which fix the 3 point hitch, you should install the bolt from inside to outside, mount the nut on the outside. You mounted the nut inside, so it will stuck some grass on the bolt end, and damage the bolt soon, you will meet trouble if you want to disassemble it in future.

I see 2 hole near the side wall, what's that? Do you drill it?
