are there any machines that uses gearbox with a narrow ratio span? What this mean is the difference between the high gear and low gear isn't too great. Only a small variation is necessary for the performance.

Cars usually have a ratio span of 4:1. So that means at the lowest gear, the engine is spinning 4 times as fast as the drive shaft. At the highest gear, the engine is spinning the same as the drive shaft.

Are there any machines with a ratio span of no more than 2:1?

Thanks
