I've read other posts about gearbox oil dripping out of the "GEARBOX VENT" when storing some 60'MMM's in the vertical position. I've looked but couldn't see the vent...maybe it's these 56yr old eyes...can anyone help??? .....also was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on how to relieve tension on mower deck belt as suggested in owners manual....is it really necessary????????

The belt should have a spring loaded tensioner on it . Loosen this off and take the belt off the roller. Store it upright. If oil leaks turn it the other way.

You can only store the BX deck one way with the roller wheel kit.... Mine hasn't leaked in 6 weeks and I also don't see a traditional vent any where on the gear box. As for the belt, use a very large and long screwdriver and pry the spring off of the mounting post as if you were removing a brake return spring. If you have never worked on automobile brakes, then you won't know what I am referring to. Then just try to coax the belt off of one of the pulleys. Use wire to retain the spring to the deck so it doesn't get lost...

I did it both ways and lifting the belt and turning the pulley at the same time works the best for getting it off in the winter and back on in the spring. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

can;t help with the vent question, but about taking the tension off the belt, i have stored all kinds of mowers and things and have never relaeased the tension on the belts. mabey otherrs with more knowlege than me might be able to point out the pros to doing that, but i have never had a problem not doing it.

I'm with you on this one Frank....... I never removed the belts before either, but those belts didn't cost very much if you had to replace it. I don't know what the Kubota MMM deck belt costs, but from the looks of it, it has to be quite expensive. Just look at the cost of the MMM for example... !!!!!!!!!! For this reason and this reason only, I removed the belt.... better to err on the side of fiscal responsibility than to learn by an expensive mistake. I can do enough of them without trying, so this was a no brainer..... off it came!!!!!

If you have the BX2000_MMM.pdf parts file.
Look on page 5.
It's part numbers 050 and 060.

If you don't have the pdf, email me.

Frank:

I've never taken the tension off my Kubota 60 in. mid mount and all is still well after 10 years. Manual says to do it.

Call me a wimp...just like the junkman! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Guess there is a first time for everything! The tension came off the MMM belt on my BX too... /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

I took the tension off my belt a week or so ago. I used a 2 foot peice of 2X2 as a lever and a length of rope with a hook to grab the spring. It came off very easy. I think it will be just as easy to put it back on. Another TBNer recommended the method; might have been Henro.

I've have my mower stored on end and no leaks.
