Gehl 2580 sliage special baler

I found a dealer that has a gehl 2580 round baler and they are asking $8700 for it. I live in WV the web site says it has net wrap the belts look to be in good shape from the pics it is a sliage special also it is an 2004 model sound like a good deal but not sure about it. I have a gehl 1600 round baler now it does all right but is getting older and is close throat. I would like to get away from the closed throat Thanks.

Can you get parts for it?

I wouldn't buy anything Gehl. I know a few people with balers, mowers and choppers that parts are very hard to get. 2 years ago a guy up the road took a bath on his chopper that was only a few years old. Had a part go and could not get, junked the chopper and had to replace it.

I have a gehl 1600 and I have not had any problem finding parts for it. Are the models harder to find parts for.

Gehl abandoned the hay & forage equipment business several years ago without securing a buyer for that product line. Any Gehl parts that are not found in the aftermarket or generically are in diminishing supply. This will not improve.

There is a ton of Gehl stuff out there I am surprised that someone has not purchased the right to make the parts yet.

IIRC someone (H&S?) bought the mixer mills and are currently building them.

Thats a great baler and for the most part the parts are still rolling in without any trouble. If it is the wide pick-up model those were my prefered!
There are times that customers come in hoping to find matching parts for most makes in our bins when they can't find them available in the time they had hoped to from the dealer of that brand.

The plus of a gehl round baler is their density control. They can make bales that hold more hay then any of the other designs actually making it difficult to spear them if that is the way they are being handled.
