You will want your own genealogy software. I use "Family Treemaker". I would recommend that you develop your own database independent of any internet site. You can use the internet sites to enter information into your personal database.

I am an obituary junkie, I scan the newspapers every day for possible geneology clues.

Let me reemphasize the importance of good software. If you really get into geneology, you will soon have thousands of names, dates, and relationships that are impossible to keep track of without good (independent) software.

The Bureau Of Land Management website is free and it can be very useful, if most of your ancestors were homesteaders, like mine.

I don't think you will find Texas or the Thirteen Colonies here.

I'll have to do a bit more research. I like that cemetery site. Me paternal ancestor came in 1784, maternal (except for great grandmother Cherokee) came to Virginia in --- 1656! I reckon I'm American.

I find it interesting to a small degree. My youngest brother is very interested in it and has had some luck finding relatives back in Europe that we're getting to know through facebook. I just added two cousins in the Ukraine that we all knew where there someplace, but had lost track of. It's really nice seeing their pictures and learning about what their lives are like.
