Looking at purchasing a Generac 7550EXL for $500 with little use. Anyone have any knowledge of the good and bad of this brand. It will be used for multiple tasks such as power outage stand by, pumping water from ponds to water new stand of grass ... thanks

I've got a Generac PTO generator and it works great.. Generac is an old established generator manufacurer and in my opinion it beats the Chinese for sure and parts and service are readily available and it sounds like a fair deal you are getting.

Bob that seems like a good price for the generator. Is there anyway you can run it and put it under a load and see how it performs.

When I bought a used generator, I took a Kill-a-watt meter with me and a bunch of electric heaters. This allowed me to measure the voltage, amperage and frequency output under full load.

I've had pretty much the same generator for 6 years now. After runnning during a a few power outages It smoked a surge protector in the house. The surge protector saved the TV and other expensive stuff. I checked generator voltage and it was 174!. There is a regulator. I think it was about $50 and replaced it myself.. Had a friend with same generator and problem. He had no surge protector and lost a few items. I've had no problems since then. Must have been a bad lot of voltage regulators. The thing is pretty good with fuel and voltage is very consistent no matter what the load is.
