General Rule for Gal/Hour Fuel Consumption

/ General Rule for Gal/Hour Fuel Consumption #11
The engine design guys used to quote 1/2 pound of fuel per horsepower hour as the theoretical value. That translates to 50 pounds of fuel for a 100 hp engine to run 1 hour, or about 6 gallons (roughly 8 pounds per gallon). The comparable figure for oil consumptions was 0.5% of the fuel used, or about 1 quart per 8 hour day in the above fuel consumption example.
