I like to never found this up in the NH section.
Ok, where I left off from private mail.
Have you repolarized the generator?
Bat to field and armature. ( pull arm and field wire off he, from reg, when you do this )
If that doesn't help,
When you turn key on, do you get oil and charge lamp on?
( check fuse at harness behind cluster )
If still no, motor test Gen.
Same as polarizing, almost.
Loose Gen, slip belt off, retighten brackets, need good ground. Apply bat hot to armature..might spin weekly. Apply bat hot to arm and field, should spin real good, like an electric motor. If not, it needs a trip to the doctor.
If yes, try one more thing.
Get belt back on, start her up, get rpms mid throttle. Still red lamp? Yes, put meter across battery. 12.6 is nominal, 13.2-14.x is charging.. Lower rpms charge lower on a dc generator.
Now.. Is it showing 13+?
If not remove field wire and jump Gen field to bat hot. Meter should show good charge. If not, and he passed motor test, next jump arm to bat hot, if this shows charge, your prince of darkness vreg needs looking at. Sometimes you can pull the cover and clean them up, other times.. Replace as needed.
