So I got my Harbor Freight 3500 generator. I would like to build a dedicated generator shed to store it close to the house and protect it from the elements and for ease of use.

I have seen online were people have built small sheds with vents and a fan so they can run it in the shed during bad weather. My concern is overheating of the generator. Has anyone done this and how did it work out?

I have not run my generator yet as I am still recovering from carpal tunnel and ulmer nerve surgery. But from what I have read I am not to concerned with noise reduction.

Pictures of your generator sheds would also be helpful.

Mine has two opposite sides, about 4x4ft, and a roof, same size. The roof and the side toward the exhaust are covered with steel roofing. Plywood siding on the other side.

Never had a shed for the Suzuki 4000 watt. Now have Central Maine Diesel Isuzu and bought it with its own cover.

It's right behind the garage that's part of the house. Actually, it got put in my little garden patch. Stuff still grows good around it. Used an oil extractor for the 50 hour oil change. Not sure what I'll do about changing the coolant in about 5 years time. Can't let anything dump there in the garden patch. I fill from 5 gallon plastic containers into the 60 gallon tank and have a little pump to put fuel into 5 gallon containers for the tractor from time to time. Only uses 2.5 gallons/yr if there's no emergency to kick it on.

Is that enough to keep the rain off it?

Really nice looking enclosure, was going to ask it you had problems with it overheating then read it is water cooled.

Standard Suncast shed from Lowe’s. Vents all around and a small powered gable vent on the exhaust side (right) that gets plugged into the genny. HF 8750, in there.

I like your set-up. The gable vent opens when the unit runs ?
Quick, Easy, Does'nt cost a lot. Good idea . Solar charger too!

I suspect most people with sheds have water-cooled units? (I know that's the case for me). I think for an air cooled unit, you'd want to be able to open it up to get good airflow, so I'd make something with sides that can totally hinge open. Then make sure there is some way for air to rise and not get trapped under the roof.
