Get well card for rotr

Today the cell went off. I looked down at the screen. It was my old bud Ron. I said "hello old man."

"Hi harv. This is Sue."

"Everything alright?" I asked.

"Yeah. Ron's in the hospital but he's okay. He should be home today or tomorrow."

"What happened?" I asked, still in a state of shock.

"He had a little stroke. But he'll be fine."

Ron was the blacksmith at the norte tejas get together where we made the stuff for the ATV bridge.

In the next day or so he'll get online to see what's up. I thought a get well card from all of us might make his day.

I'll start it off.

Hi Ron. Of all the things that could befall you I would never have guessed a stroke. I thought that was where the blood flow to the brain was messed up. When did you get the brain? And why didn't you tell me you had one?

I love you. Quit those darn cigarettes and take your blood pressure medicine. The best part about my one liners is your laugh.

Ron, I figured anyone who could stand the heat of that forge to make those steer heads would be far too tough to have a stroke. Hope you recover quickly.

Hi Ron

We have not the opportunity to meet, but I feel I know you. Harvey keeps me up to date on your blacksmithing and your "other activities". Kind of got to know you a bit through the photos all of the guys sent re:"the Bridge". My wife loved the little sculptures that you did of the longhorns. They look great.

Hope you get to feeling great soon. As Harvey says, take that medication. Thanks to a great doctor, I take six little pills per day that has had my cancer in remission for the past almost three years. It works and things do get better.

Oh, heck. Another cripple sharing the pity portion with me. Darn. Well, Ron, let me tell you. I'm getting a little stronger every day, because I'm sticking with the meds and diet, and because I gave up the cigarettes the day I hit the hospital. It's been a little more than 4 months for me, and I can do things again. If you do what Harve says, give up the smokes and take the meds and watch the diet, you and I can have a contest to see who survives the longest. Maybe some day I'll get a chance to meet you and see who wins. I gotta warn you, I've seen a picture of you, and even thought you look ornery, I bet I'm more stubborn. The key is to pitch that stubborness into winning instead of resisting.

Ron, This is true and this is weird. As I crossed our bridge this weekend I looked down at your world famous Longhorns and I noticed something different about one of them. Apparently one Longhorn had gigged a falling leaf and was just sitting there kind of acting proud that he had gigged something in his frozen state. I was thinking about you and how you had told me the right angle to cut the neck so they would be siting proud on the Texas. Recover quickly and we will see you at Jim's place in April!
